OUR UNIQUE RECYCLING SYSTEM
At Wally and Whiz, we are incredibly proud that we have created a special recycling system that allows our customers the opportunity to return their empty Wally and Whiz containers in our shops. Aside from receiving a clear conscious, we also supply you with one of our flow packs, as a way of saying thank you for your effort.
1. You can do something good for our environment
2. You can receive payment with delicious vegan winegums
3. Please share with us your way of reusing our containers, or your experience of returning them with the hashtag #ReuseWally
It sounds too good to be true - but it isn’t!
What does it mean? It means, that we can collect our cubes again and reuse them. Consequently, we can reduce our production of plastic containers, with the reassurance that our plastic does not end up in nature.
OUR PLASTIC CAN BE REUSED
Beside our unique recycling system, we are also working continually to improve our containers. Since 2017, we have reduced our paper usage for our labels by 30%. We have also reduced our usage of plastic in our flow packs by 58%. At the same time, while reducing the use of materials for our products, we are also working to make them more durable, so that they may be reused by customers, if they do not wish to return them. The containers are designed to be reusable, and can be used to hold spices, coins, jewelry or other small things that any one can collect in a small container with a lid.
Additionally, it is also possible to refill your Christmas calendars and cut outs, since they are made of durable materials of high quality, that can easily be reused. All of this is for the sake of reducing material waste of these products.
This also means, that we do not use bioplastic. Why not? There are multiple reasons. First and most importantly, we do not believe that bioplastic is developed enough to be employed in the food industry just yet. Furthermore, bioplastic can not be recycled in the same way, as it pollutes the air, when it is burned.
WE SOURCE LOCALLY
At Wally and Whiz, we prefer to utilize local ingredients and work force. The largest part of our materials and ingredients are supplied from Danish sources. Among this, in 2017 we switched our plastic production from China to the Danish town Slagelse, as a part of having greater focus on the environment and to reduce our CO2 emissions, as well as for the sake of cleaner plastic.
Likewise, our natural flavors and colors are delivered from local producers, which are involved in securing a high quality of our gourmet winegums, and not least to reduce our CO2 emissions.
Lastly, our cardboard and paper is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which means that we are serious about supporting sustainable forestry.
WE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY
Aside from our focus on sustainability, at Wally and Whiz, we also take seriously social responsibility. Our Signature™ line is a method, where we can create some incredibly unique winegums in limited supply, in the name of service. With time, we have developed collaborations with some of the most outstanding chefs in Denmark, that personally decide on an organization, where we will donate proceeds to. This allows us to develop some extraordinary flavor experiences, which besides the heavenly taste, also support a good purpose.
Some of our previous projects have involved:
• Landsforeningen Downs Syndrom (National Downs Syndrom Association)
• Gadens Børn
• Foreningen Cancerramte Børn (Association of Cancer Affected Children)
• Røde Kors (The Red Cross)
WE CREATE LOCAL WORK OPPORTUNITIES
It has been very popular to outsource a large percentage of one’s value chain out of the country, since it can convert to saving a lot of income. At Wally and Whiz, we do not compromise with quality - and we are proud to say that our winegums are handmade in Denmark. Not only does our production take place in Denmark, the large part of our suppliers are also locally sourced. Our plastic is produced in Slagelse, our FSC-qualified cardboard and paper come from Denmark, and we use DSV as one of our suppliers.
